Hike to the Gayría Volcano in Fuerteventura

Hike to the Gayría Volcano in Fuerteventura – Explore the Island’s Wild Side

Embark on a scenic volcano hike in Fuerteventura through the island’s striking interior. This guided route takes you to the magnificent Gayría Volcano, a hidden gem surrounded by lava fields, ancient farming terraces, and panoramic viewpoints. The experience includes a visit to a local finca with a tasting of authentic Canarian products.

Discover the Gayría Volcano

Located in the heart of the island, Gayría is considered one of the most beautiful volcanoes in Fuerteventura. Its surreal, semi-desert landscapes feel untouched by time. Available only from September 1 to February 15, this seasonal excursion showcases a quieter and more authentic side of the island.

As you walk along volcanic gravel paths, you’ll see old farming zones — including crater walls transformed into gardens that collect rainwater. These landscapes reveal how past generations used volcanic terrain for survival and cultivation.

Hike Route and Viewpoint

The volcano rises to 461 meters. After a 100-meter ascent, we’ll reach a scenic viewpoint where you can take a break and enjoy sweeping views that contrast with the island’s coastal scenery. The final section — a 350-meter path into the crater — is recommended only for experienced hikers.

Visit a Traditional Canarian Finca

Following the hike, you’ll visit a local finca (farm) to learn about Fuerteventura’s agricultural roots. Depending on the day, the stop may include an aloe vera plantation or a cheese workshop, with a rustic snack featuring local goat cheese and red wine. These tours are possible thanks to partnerships with small local producers.
