A Walk on Spain’s Newest Land

Live a historic and breathtaking experience with our Tajogaite Volcano hike. We will take you to the foot of the volcano that changed La Palma’s recent history, on a safe, guided route that will allow you to feel the earth’s energy and admire a landscape in constant transformation.

Starting from Llanos del Jable, we will walk along a comfortable volcanic ash (cinder) path that will take us to the edge of the cone, the closest point currently permitted. Along the way, our guide will explain the impact of the 2021 eruption and show you nature’s incredible ability to create and transform. We will also watch a video about the eruption to better understand its magnitude.

The Volcano’s Names: Tajogaite, Cumbre Vieja & More

Although its official name is Tajogaite Volcano, chosen by local residents, many people still refer to it as the “new La Palma volcano”. During its eruption, it was also known as the Cumbre Vieja Volcano, as it is located within the natural park of the same name. Other names that were considered include Cabeza de Vaca or Cabezavaca. On this tour, you will learn the story behind the volcano and its different names.
