Which Gran Canaria hiking tours you can book
The island changes landscape within a few kilometres, and the catalogue shows it: one day you walk through laurel forest in the north, the next you are among the reddish cliffs of the Tirajana caldera. The three long departures are full days out with stops, a meal or a tasting and, on two of them, a swim to finish. The three short ones are technical activities with kit and instructor included, designed for people who have never done a via ferrata or a canyon.
The six side by side
How to choose
If you want to walk and see the island, take one of the full days. The Rainforest Tour passes Firgas and the Barranco de Azuaje, stops to eat at an organic farm and ends with a swim in natural pools. The red canyon combines the El Guriete viewpoint, Santa Lucía de Tirajana, the La Fortaleza caves, a Canarian lunch and the Barranco de Las Vacas, finishing by the sea. The heart of the volcano sets off at 2 pm for the Bandama caldera and Cruz de Tejeda, with a tasting of local produce.
If you are after action, the three short ones come with all the kit: on canyoning you descend the riverbed walking, jumping and abseiling, wetsuit and helmet included; the via ferrata runs in the south, clipped to a life line throughout, and needs no experience; rock climbing is a lesson on natural rock with equipment, insurance and photos of the day.
Practical information
- Walking boots with decent grip, water and sun protection on all of them.
- Free cancellation up to 24 hours before.
- Climbing, via ferrata and canyoning sell out easily: book with some notice.
- Five of the six include hotel pickup; for climbing you make your own way to the meeting point.
