Parque Etnográfico y Jardín Botánico Pirámides de Güímar

Parque Etnográfico y Jardín Botánico Pirámides de Güímar is an open-air museum of more than 64,000 m² in the Güímar valley, on the eastern side of Tenerife. The visit centres on six stepped pyramids built from volcanic stone and aligned with the sun on key astronomical dates, alongside the Chacona Museum and the rooms that explain the research into these structures and the theories of Thor Heyerdahl, the founder of the park, known for his transoceanic voyages in traditional vessels.

The rest of the site is garden and footpath: the Poison Garden, the only one of its kind in Spain, with more than 70 toxic species from around the world; the Tropicarium, devoted to the survival strategies of orchids and carnivorous plants; and the Sustainable Garden, a recreation of a Canarian ravine created together with the botanist Wolfredo Wildpret and the University of La Laguna. Younger visitors have the Bird Trail and the hunt for Federico around the grounds, and the exhibition “Colonising Polynesia. Rapa Nui: extreme survival” takes the visit as far as the Pacific.
