Going up to 3,500 metres, to the third highest volcano in the world if you count the 4 km that sit below sea level, is a wonderful experience. From the summit you can make out the Pico Viejo volcano and the huge caldera, more than 10 km across, formed when the volcano collapsed.

I recommend going with a guide who already has the licence and is experienced, so they can take you up little by little and also explain all the details and more about the history of this wonderful island.
The cable car ride is quick (about 8 minutes) and you do feel the altitude a little.
The walk up to the summit is beautiful and very manageable. It is well signposted and well prepared.I would say it could be classed as moderate, because of the steepness and the altitude (the oxygen).To go up, even if you are fit, I recommend going slowly and stopping every few minutes to get used to the lack of oxygen; as it is a bit steep you will feel tired and need to stop to breathe, otherwise you can get dizzy. Important: have breakfast first!Once you are up there the panoramic view is unbeatable. On the way down, be careful, because you can pick up speed and a stone on the path can twist your ankle (it happened to me 😔).

Before going up they checked our footwear: hiking boots or trainers are compulsory, they will not let you up in smooth-soled shoes or sandals.
At the top it is much colder than at the base of the caldera, and it is often windy, so dress accordingly.
The view from the summit station is indescribable, it is worth the money.

Once at the top it was very cold, 4 degrees in mid-April and a bit windy. The view was reasonably good, sadly not as impressive as 12 years ago in October, when it was warmer and there was no wind. But the cable car company is of course NOT responsible for that. It is up to us when we decide to go up.
The walking paths at the upper station were all closed because of the weather, which you can and must understand. Safety comes first.
Even though you get an hour at the top, we set off back down twenty minutes later because of the cold. The ride takes about 8 minutes. One more thing about the way down: you get a great view of the landscape around the base station and you glide gently back down, without jolting or swaying at the pylons. For my part, I found it lovely again. Different from last time, but you have to experience that too in order to compare.

You book on the website, or on the spot if you are lucky, as we were.
Once your places are booked and after about twenty minutes' wait, the vertiginous ascent begins. Bring proper footwear and clothing (in our case, in April, a hat was essential because temperatures were below zero).
The path that takes you up the last 200 m requires prior authorisation with a booking, but even so it does not guarantee access if the weather is not suitable (frost, ice).
In April all the paths were closed, so there was no access even for people who had requested the authorisation.
So you have to book both the way up and the way down if the paths are closed, because otherwise you cannot get back down.
The experience is unique, magical, incredible. Standing on top of the highest volcano in Europe is worth a few constraints.

At first I thought it was a bit overpriced, but considering the cable car ticket alone is €41, having a guide explain the vegetation and wildlife along the way actually made the price make more sense.The cable car itself fits about 22 people, so it does feel a little squeezed. My friend and I got in first and managed to stand by the window — the views going up were absolutely spectacular. The ride is fast, only around 8 minutes, but you climb quickly and it’s impressive.At the top (we went in February), it was very cold. Definitely bring an extra jacket — the wind is no joke. The walking paths were closed due to ice, so there wasn’t much space to explore — only a small area near the platform. I’m not sure if the higher trails are open in summer or if there’s an additional cost for those.We stayed exactly 15 minutes before running back inside from the cold and heading down 😅 The sky was clear, the views were incredible, and we got some amazing photos.Is it worth the price? Honestly, it does feel quite expensive for the short time you spend up there — but the views are unforgettable.At the bottom station there are lovely cafés and souvenir shops if you want to warm up (and spend a bit more money).Overall, we had a wonderful day — just go prepared and manage expectations.

Taking the cable car up Mount Teide is absolutely worth it for the stunning views alone. The ride is quick... Taking the cable car up Mount Teide is absolutely worth it for the stunning views alone. The ride is quick and smooth, and within minutes you’re almost at the summit, surrounded by volcanic landscapes and breathtaking panoramas over Tenerife.
Once at the top, the time window is limited to about one hour, so it’s best to plan ahead and explore as much as possible. The paths are well maintained, and the viewpoint overlooking Pico Viejo is a definite highlight — it takes about 10–15 minutes each way, but the colorful crater and sweeping views make the short hike more than worth it.
The ticket prices are on the higher side, which is something to keep in mind. I’d recommend joining a guided tour if you want more background and an easier overall experience. If you’re visiting independently, consider adding the audioguide — it gives helpful context about the geology and history of Teide that you might otherwise miss.
The restrooms are clean and free to use with a valid cable car ticket.
Overall, an impressive experience with unforgettable scenery, despite the time limits and cost. A must-do when visiting Tenerife.
